United States

It was in Christmas 2000, I was having troubles with the board of directors of the NGO I was working with and I realized I did not have to do this anymore. Everything I owned was paid for, I could do whatever I wanted to do.

So one day I woke up and I decided to leave. I have had a very nice and interesting first 50 years and I wanted to share my experience with other people.

I wanted to travel the world and to do it with a purpose. I didn’t want to be a tourist. I wanted to really know the people where I will go.

So I join the US Peace Corp, a US governmental organization that recruits volunteers to provide professional assistance to other countries, for teaching or water development for example.

And since 2001, I have been an education volunteer in 7 different countries: St Lucia, Zambia, Micronesia, Uganda, Philippines, Gambia and Dominique. And I also spent some time in Vietnam and Laos.

I basically define myself as being a teacher. All I do is teaching. I love the “Ahhhh” moment, when a student suddenly understands.

And beyond that, every successful person in the world has had a good teacher. Everybody has to learn to be able to do something in the future. I think it is the most important profession in the world.

I like doing what I do and I will keep doing it ! I don’t want to stop working. I like meeting people and I have to be doing something because I deteriorate fast if I don’t have a purpose. »
